Hearing Aid FAQ
Will a hearing aid help me?
If you have an aidable hearing loss, meaning you have some hearing left to work with then the answer is yes. How much it will help will depend on a whole host of factors including:
1. How long you waited to do something about your problem?
2. How you lost your hearing.
3. Your overall health.
If you have a problem hearing in both ears (and that’s the rule not the exception) then 99% of the time you’ll need two hearing aids.
Could my hearing just be normal for my age?
Your hearing is either in the range of “normal” or it isn’t. Although a significant number of people will lose their hearing as a result of aging. Your age has nothing to do with whether or not your hearing is “normal”.
Should I wait to get hearing aids?
The longer you wait to get help, the longer it will take your brain once you do decide to address the problem to re-learn how to process sounds. It will also take time for your brain to re-learn how to separate the speech from the noise. More importantly, while you’re waiting to fix your hearing problem you’re missing out on life.

Dr. Alex Malyarovich
Audiologist
Dr. Alex Malyarovich is an experienced audiologist who has been providing audiological care to his patients for over a decade. He completed his undergraduate studies in Communication Sciences and Disorders at The City University of New York at Brooklyn College and earned his Doctor of Science in Audiology from Montclair State University in 2013. After graduation, he began working at Speech & Hearing Associates, where he performed hearing tests, balance testing, electrophysiological testing, hearing aid evaluations and fittings. He then worked at one of the top Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) practices in Bergen County for seven years, where he provided audiological care to his patients and worked closely with an otologist, an ENT physician specializing in the ear. Through this opportunity, he was able to evaluate and work with patients that had different types of disorders of the ear.
In 2023, Dr. Malyarovich became the new owner of Sussex Audiology Services, where he brings his acquired knowledge and skills to provide exceptional audiological care to his patients. In his free time, Dr. Malyarovich enjoys spending time with his wife and two young boys. He also enjoys cooking, especially smoking meats, fishing, and exploring unique destinations and cuisines.
